Research Metrics & Scholarly Impact
This guide was created to help faculty determine the impact that their research, etc. has had.
What are Altmetrics?
Altmetrics is the measurement of the impact an article has on social media such as:
- Social Media
- News Media
- Blogs
- Reference Managers (e.g. Mendeley)
- Other online conversations captured include YouTube, Wikipedia, Reddit, policy documents, etc.
Determing Your Online Impact
- Altmetric.comAltmetric (includes Bookmarklet for Firefox/Chrome) "Each week Altmetric captures hundreds of thousands of tweets, blog posts, news stories and other content that mention scholarly articles."
- Altmetrics.orgAltmetrics Using programs like citation management tools Zotero and Mendeley, social networks like Twitter, and blogging to provide scholarship metrics.
- ImpactStory (formerly Total Impact)The open-source tool provides a comprehensive look at a scholar’s research impact, ranging from journal article metrics to blog posts, datasets, and software.
- IUPUI ScholarWorks This link opens in a new windowThis repository includes the scholarly output of IUPUI. People that use this repository can also set up alerts for the number of times their research has been viewed or downloaded.
