- Absolute Essentials of Green Business by Alan Sitkin This shortform textbook provides a core understanding of the intersection between business and the environment. The sector's rapid expansion means that many university programmes are focusing to a greater extent nowadays on the career opportunities generated by the ecological imperative - a curriculum increasingly referred to as "green business". Climate breakdown is a devastating issue facing contemporary society. With six out of the ten largest multinationals listed in the 2018 Fortune Global 500 being active in the energy sector, it is no surprise that more and more business schools are offering modules addressing the management of natural resources. The business world has made some progress incorporating green principles into their strategies and operations, but progress needs to accelerate in line with global agreements to prevent catastrophic ecological and environmental problems. Absolute Essentials of Green Businessstands out because of its singular focus on a subset of this wider curricular area. By covering both the macro (framework) and micro (business strategy) aspects of the topic, the book's structure is in line with the way modules of this nature are taught in universities today. Students of business and environmental studies will benefit from reading this concise textbook in order to develop their understanding of a fundamental element of the social science curriculum. ocus on a subset of this wider curricular area. - The Apology Impulse by Cary Cooper; Sean O'Meara Saying sorry is in crisis. On one hand there are anxious PR aficionados and social media teams dishing out apologies with alarming frequency. On the other there are people and organizations who have done truly terrible things issuing much-delayed statements of mild regret. We have become addicted to apologies but immune from saying sorry. In January 2018 there were 35 public apologies from high-profile organizations and individuals. That's more than one per day. Between them, in 2017, the likes of Facebook, Mercedes Benz and United Airlines issued over 2,000 words of apologies for their transgressions. Alarmingly, the word 'sorry' didn't appear once. This perfectly timed book examines the psychology, motivations and even the economic rationale of giving an apology in the age of outrage culture and on-demand contrition. It reveals the tricks and techniques we all use to evade, reframe and divert from what we did and demonstrates how professionals do it best. Providing lessons for businesses and organizations, you'll find out how to give meaningful apologies and know when to say sorry, or not say it at all. The Apology Impulse is the perfect playbook for anyone - from social media executive through to online influencers and CEOs - who apologise way too much and say sorry far too infrequently.ISBN: 9781789660340Publication Date: 2019-10-29
- Assessing English for Professional Purposes by Ute Knoch; Susy Macqueen ** WINNER OF ILTA/SAGE Best Book Award 2020 ** Assessing English for Professional Purposes provides a state-of-the-art account of the various kinds of language assessments used to determine people's abilities to function linguistically in the workplace. At a time when professional expertise is increasingly mobile and diverse, with highly trained professionals migrating across national boundaries to apply their skills in English-speaking settings, this book offers a renewed agenda for inquiry into language assessments for professional purposes (LAPP). Many of these experts work in high-risk environments where communication breakdowns can have serious consequences. This risk has been identified by governments and professional bodies, who implement language tests for gate-keeping purposes. Through a sociological lens of risk and responsibility, this book: provides a detailed overview of both foundational and recent literature in the field; offers conceptual tools for specific purpose assessment, including a socially oriented theory of construct; develops theory and practice in key areas, such as needs analysis, test development, validation and policy; significantly broadens the scope of the assessment of English for professional purposes to include a range of assessment practices for both professionals and laypeople in professional settings. Assessing English for Professional Purposes is key reading for researchers, graduate students and practitioners working in the area of English for Specific Purposes assessment.ISBN: 9781138118867Publication Date: 2019-09-12

- Business Ethics from Antiquity to the 19th Century by David George Surdam This book combines elements of economic and business history to study business ethics from antiquity to the nineteenth century. This book begins with so-called primitive people, showing how humans began to exchange goods and commodities from trade as a way to keep peace and prosper. The ancients considered the value and ethics of business, and many of their reflections influenced medieval Catholic thinkers and business participants. Protestants elevated working and profit-making to the respectable and virtuous, and some groups, such as Quakers, came to exemplify good business ethics. This book draws on the work of economists and historians to highlight the importance of changing technologies, religious beliefs, and cultural attitudes, showing that what is considered ethical differs across time and place.ISBN: 9783030371647Publication Date: 2020-01-30
