Finding Books on Physics Topics
There are four places where you can look for books on physics topics: IUPUC's online library catalog (IUCAT), WorldCat, Google Books, and interlibrary loan (ILL). Each offers a different scope and each provides a different way of accessing books.
Indiana University Library Catalog (IUCAT)
- Indiana University Library Catalog (IUCAT)IUPUC's online library catalog provides comprehensive access to millions of items held by the IU Libraries statewide, including books, recordings, US government publications, periodicals, and other types of material.
Google Books
Google Books is a search engine that lists many books available at different libraries throughout the United States. Google Books provides limited previews and full-text searches of some books, as well as a search field to check availability of a book at libraries near you.

WorldCat Search Box
IU doesn't have every book. If you are not finding what you need in IUCAT, then search WorldCat, which contains books from libraries all over the country. If you find a good book, you can request it via InterLibrary Loan.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
- Interlibrary Loan at IUPUCIf you cannot locate a copy of material that you need in our library, we will get a copy for you from another library. Your request will arrive between three and ten days.
Featured Physics Books at IUPUC
- Aspects of Consciousness by Ingrid Fredriksson (Editor)ISBN: 9780786464951Publication Date: 2012-08-06Throughout the ages, the mysteries of what happens when we die and the nature of the human mind have fascinated us. In this collection of essays, leading scientists and authors contemplate consciousness, quantum mechanics, string theory, dimensions, space and time, nonlocal space, the hologram, and the effect of death on consciousness. Although many of these topics have traditionally been considered matters for philosophical and religious debate, advances in modern science and in particular the science of resuscitation have now enabled an objective, scientific approach--which bears widespread implications not only for science but for all of humanity.
- College Physics by Jerry D. Wilson; Anthony J. BuffaISBN: 0130676446Publication Date: 2002-07-30This reader-friendly book presents the fundamental principles of physics in a clear and concise manner. Emphasizing conceptual understanding as the basis for mastering a variety of problem-solving tools, it provides a wide range of relevant applications and illustrative examples. This book discusses mechanics, thermodynamics, and oscillations and wave motion. For anyone wishing to learn more about the fundamentals of physics and how physical principles apply to a variety of real-world situations, devices, and topics.
- Fast Car Physics by Chuck EdmondsonISBN: 9780801898228Publication Date: 2011-03-01Revving engines, smoking tires, and high speeds. Car racing enthusiasts and race drivers alike know the thrill of competition, the push to perform better, and the agony--and dangers--of bad decisions. But driving faster and better involves more than just high horsepower and tightly tuned engines. Physicist and amateur racer Chuck Edmondson thoroughly discusses the physics underlying car racing and explains just what's going on during any race, why, and how a driver can improve control and ultimately win. The world of motorsports is rich with excitement and competition--and physics. Edmondson applies common mathematical theories to real-world racing situations to reveal the secrets behind successful fast driving. He explains such key concepts as how to tune your car and why it matters, how to calculate 0 to 60 mph times and quarter-mile times and why they are important, and where, when, why, and how to use kinematics in road racing. He wraps it up with insight into the impact and benefit of green technologies in racing. In each case, Edmondson's in-depth explanations and worked equations link the physics principles to qualitative racing advice. From selecting shifting points to load transfer in car control and beyond, Fast Car Physics is the ideal source to consult before buckling up and cinching down the belts on your racing harness.
- Physics Companion by Anthony C. Fischer-CrippsISBN: 9780750309530Publication Date: 2003-03-20The Physics Companion is a revision aid and study guide for undergraduates in physics. It covers the core topics, deriving key concepts and equations in clear one-page figure-rich descriptions. Each subsection contains a summary of the main equations, together with a set of worked examples. The topics covered include: Thermal Physics Electricity and Magnetism Waves and Optics Mechanics States of Matter Quantum Physics Intended as supporting material for other texts, the book will be an essential resource for undergraduate students throughout the course of their degree.
- Physics of Life by Adrian BejanISBN: 9781250078827Publication Date: 2016-05-24The Physics of Life explores the roots of the big question by examining the deepest urges and properties of living things, both animate and inanimate: how to live longer, with food, warmth, power, movement and free access to other people and surroundings. Bejan explores controversial and relevant issues such as sustainability, water and food supply, fuel, and economy, to critique the state in which the world understands positions of power and freedom. Breaking down concepts such as desire and power, sports health and culture, the state of economy, water and energy, politics and distribution, Bejan uses the language of physics to explain how each system works in order to clarify the meaning of evolution in its broadest scientific sense, moving the reader towards a better understanding of the world's systems and the natural evolution of cultural and political development. The Physics of Lifeargues that the evolution phenomenon is much broader and older than the evolutionary designs that constitute the biosphere, empowering readers with a new view of the globe and the future, revealing that the urge to have better ideas has the same physical effect as the urge to have better laws and better government. This is evolution explained loudly but also elegantly, forging a path that flows sustainability.
