Literature searching tips

Medline (Ovid or PubMed)

  • "Genetics" is a MESH subheading (normally added to a disease or disorder) and used for mechanisms of heredity and the genetics of organisms, for the genetic basis of normal and pathologic states, and for the genetic aspects of endogenous chemicals. It includes biochemical and molecular influence on genetic material.
  • "Genetic Diseases, Inborn" is the term used to include diseases that are caused by genetic mutations present during embryo or fetal development. It can be exploded to include all genetic diseases.
  • "Congenital Abnormalities" is the term used for birth defects.

EMBASE

  • "Genetic and Familial Disorders" is the subject term (EMTREE).
