Most library resources are IP-restricted. This means that, while on-campus, you can connect to any resource; but if you are off-campus you won't. Luckily, there are multiple ways to access library resources while off-campus.

1. Connect to resources like databases and journal articles from the library's web page. Once you click on a database or e-journal link, there will be a pop-up screen where you log-in to authenticate yourself as being affiliated with IUPUI. As long as you keep your browser window open, you should not have to re-authenticate.
2. Set up a VPN link. For the most reliable connections across the widest range of platforms and network configurations, UITS recommends connecting to the VPN with the Ivanti Secure Access (formerly Pulse Secure). The benefit to this method is that as long as you are logged in, you can open and close browser windows just as you would on-campus.
3. Set up a secure Citrix Workspace App (formerly Citrix receiver) on mobile devices to browse resources directly and run IUanyWare Software virtually.

University Library now buys many books electronically, so you can use them any time, anywhere. All can be accessed directly in browser with your student login, but many are also available for download and can be used without an Internet connection.

There are many different "styles" you may choose from when citing sources. Your professor will probably tell you which "style" is preferred for your class. MLA (Modern Language Association), Chicago, and APA (American Psychological Association) are three of the most commonly used citation styles, but there are hundreds.

Recent editions of style manuals, which include detailed information and examples, are available at the Services & Information Desk at the University Library. If you need help on your research project, please contact a subject specialist librarian.

We have the Chicago Manual of Style available online as well as in print. For quick reference, there are many online sources. One of the best is the Purdue OWL. But be aware that the manual is always the most authoritative source.

The IUPUI University Writing Center (UWC) is a free service available to all IUPUI students, faculty, and staff, at both the graduate and undergraduate level. It is a place where students can go for help with writing assignments and projects. The UWC offers students the opportunity to work one-on-one with experienced readers and writers.
