Nexus Staff 3D Modeling Assistance

The Nexus staff are available to provide 3D modeling services to Indiana University School of Medicine faculty members for projects that have been approved by the Ruth Lilly Medical Library Tech Team. Indiana University School of Medicine faculty should expect a minimum of 4 weeks of modeling time per model. The Nexus staff are not available to provide 3D modeling services to students.

Body Parts 3D
A website hosted in Japan that offers numerous anatomy models.
NIH 3D Print Exchange
Free medical related 3D models available for downloading.
Thingiverse
A variety of models available. Search collections or enter in a specific model.
Embodi3D
A Biomedical Printing community which offers anatomical models created from DICOM data.

Publications

MorphoMuseuM
MorphoMuseuM is a peer reviewed journal that publishes 3D models of vertebrates, including models of type specimens, anatomy atlases, reconstruction of deformed or damaged specimens, and 3D datasets. Acceptable 3D file types are .ply, .vtk, and .stl.

3D Modelling Software

TinkerCAD
TinkerCAD is a free, easy-to-use online program for those looking to get started with 3D modelling.
Fusion 360
CAD modelling software by Autodesk. Free 3-year license if you sign up with your IU email address.
Blender
Open source 3D modeling and animation software.
Meshmixer
Free software that allows you to fix holes in or clean up your 3D files so that they're ready for slicing.

Slicing software

A slicer program converts your 3D scans/models into files that contain instructions that your 3D printer can easily understand, thus making them ready for printing.
